Aarhus
Aarhus is the second biggest town in Denmark, attractively situated on the East coast of Jutland (see map of Denmark) and Denmark’s second largest city with a population of approximately 285,000. The University plays a dominant role in City life together with many other educational establishments. Scattered around the city there are many restaurants, bars and cafes, many of which are located by the river and suited for all budgets. Aarhus offers a thriving theatre scene, cinemas, museums and excellent facilities for sporting activities. In short, Aarhus is an educational and cultural centre, and its very soul is a charming blend, combining the atmospheres of a provincial town and an active city, which will make you feel welcome and at home.
The history of Aarhus goes back more than a thousand years and people have lived in Aarhus ever since the Vikings settled here where the river flows out into the bay.
Aarhus has been described as “the world’s smallest big city”. Most things are within walking distance (see map of Aarhus) and the city of Aarhus is the place where every wish can be fulfilled in fascinating and inspiring surroundings: Everything from big department stores to tiny specialist boutiques. Delegates will soon feel at home in the city’s relaxed and charming atmosphere.
Ideally situated on its bay, fringed by beach forests and lush scenery, yet bustling with life, Aarhus offers an inspiring setting for the Fourth ORPHEUS conference.
